He struggled
It's comforting to me to know that even Christ struggled. Verse 37 tells us that He began to be sorrowful and troubled, in verse 38 He tells us that His soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. On to verse 39, He asks the Father if possible to take this cup from Him, nevertheless not my will, but yours.
Jesus struggled and anguished over the approaching physical pain, the separation from the Father and the payment of death for the sins of the world. Because of this He can relate to our times of suffering and anguish. I think many times we forget that He too was human. Jesus had feelings both emotional and physical.
Jesus' relationship with the Father was the source of His strength to endure during this time of great suffering.
