How are we at following the star?
It just kind of struck me. Here are these "wise men" or magi (Zoroastrians?) who, it is never revealed how they came to believe this, follow a star to the "King of the Jews." Though we don't know how long the journey took it may not be wrong to assume that the star appeared the night Jesus was born. If this is the case then the journey of the wise men could have taken around two years. This amazes me. These men dropped what they were doing and took a journey to see a child. They had no modern communication devices to make sure that such a child had been born. It wasn't announced on TV. No phone call was made to little Bethlehem to see if any child had been born. They couldn't hop on the internet and search public records. They had some crude method of determining this event was going to happen, and when they saw the star they had no doubt (at least we don't get that sense) and went on a long journey. In essence, what they exhibited was faith. Somehow they were told that a certain star appearing at a certain time and/or in a certain place meant that a child had been born who was the "king of the Jews."
Do we follow God with such conviction and faith? Aren't our evidences of God much greater than that of the magi? These men have set a wonderful example for us.
