What Does The Nazarite Vow Mean For Me?

As I was reading through the Nazarite vow in Numbers 6 I felt that the Holy Spirit was speaking to me about some practical applications for this vow in my own life. These aren't interpretations, but rather some applications that I feel are useful for our lives and our culture today. If God should speak to you about actually participating in the Nazarite vow than do it! 

Starvation of pleasures – They were instructed not to eat grapes or wine. To them these things were pleasures. Sometimes to become a burning one we have say no to the “grapes”...fasting pleasures and things that drown out His voice.

Consecration – They were instructed not to not going near anything dead. I felt the Holy Spirit ask me, “What in your life is spiritually "dead"?”

Repentance – If they broke the vow they had to shave their head. I was thinking, “well, there is grace to cover us when we mess up.” There ABSOLUTLY is…Praise God! But, sometimes we are too slack about grace covering us and we neglect the aspect of repentance from our sin. We need to actually repent from our sin!! Without genuine repentance we can’t tap into that amazing grace. A question I felt prompted by the Lord to ask myself is, “When was the last time I repented?”
