What does the last days of Jesus teach us that we can apply today?
God is in control. Don't ever doubt it or let someone else convince you that you are really the one in control of your life. You ARE NOT, but HE is. Judas did not believe that very thing, which is why he sat right in the presence of Jesus, ate with him, talked with him, pretended to support his movement. But as we all know he ended up betraying him in the end. What a mistake that was. Jesus knew this would happen well in advance so it was really no surprise to him. Peter did something very similar. He actually denied even knowing Jesus, which was a slap in the face to Jesus. Jesus knew this would happen also. The point is God is in control of all of our situations. If we don't believe this we are acting just as Peter and Judas did. If you are not for God then you are against him. Everyday we must assert that God is ultimately in control of our circumstances and we must not get deterred. Regardless of what happens, God has a plan and can see into our futures, which ultimately will be bright, as long as we remain faithful to him. So today we need to admit to ourselves, much like the text says "the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" and work hard to defeat the flesh. Remember God is in control, he knows our most intimate thoughts and he WILL take care of us all.
