This is tough
This is a tough version to understand and process and something I have working through. On the surface it says anyone who continues to live in him will not sin, yet if you keep on sinning you do not know him.
You have to go deeper and really read what this verse is saying. It is not saying that if you sin you do not know God, because we all sin, even if you have accepted that Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day. Being a follower of Christ does not instantly turn you into a perfect person. Yes it does give you eternal salvation, however you have to learn to walk with him DAILY. By walking with Christ daily you turn your focus on his desire and his plan. When you do stumble, and you will, you acknowledge that you made a mistake, ask for forgiveness, and pick up your walk again with him.
It is one thing to accept Jesus as our Saviour, it is something different to make him LORD of our life.
