Obedience is the Mark of Maturity
"Remember what you have received and heard. Obey it."
Why do we as Christians seem to seek out discovering new and deeper truth? Especially when we aren't obeying what we already know and have heard? It's as if we think maturity comes with what we know not what we are obeying.
I am not saying that we are not to seek truth and pursue a life of learning new - but it is clear from Jesus that we are to REMEMBER what we have already heard ... and obey that. We never graduate from the basic and clear truth of Scripture.
Jesus said, "If you love Me you will obey what I say." He didn't say, "If you love Me you will know all my commandments and teachings." Obedience is the mark of maturity.
The Christian who has been a Christian only a short time and only "knows" a very little but is obedient in that little, is far more mature than the Christian who has been a Christian for some time but could run circles around anyone in Bible trivia, theology, what the Bible says about this or about that - but is not obedient in the basics like evangelism, tithing, etc.
