John 3:19-20
The images of darkness and light are used constantly in the New Testament...but none more powerful than this verse. Knowing God...accepting his Son as our Savior puts a new way of thinking into our hearts and minds. When we ask Jesus into our hearts we have a new way of understanding...of feeling. There is a "still small voice" that whispers in our ear that we are doing wrong. We can't come close to the Light...walk with Him...be in His presence and not have our sin exposed. Just like being in a dark room...a beam of light exposes what is there. Being in Christ exposes the darkness of our lives for what it is...sin that separates us from God. It is the reason that Christians are so miserable...angry...hateful...when they knowingly sin. That burden never goes away...because Christ never goes away. Don't try to fight it...run from it...because you can't. The best thing to do is try to live life each day for Christ...doing the best you can to flee from the selfishness of flesh. Say "no" to your darkness and "yes" to His light.
