Age & Faith
As I was reading through Genesis and Adam's geneology, it struck me how our age has declined. When people of the faith walked with God in the beginning their age was astronomical (to us at least). Adam lived 930 years and the rest of the family started to decrease from there. However, I found some interesting items:
- Enoch lived 365 years and was taken by God, because he walked with God. God wanted him to be with him in Heaven & so he brought him home.
- Methuselah lived 969 years (oldest man ever to live)
- Noah was going to comfort the people (that's what his name meant). When he was 500 years old he had his children.
When I look at the ages of the those people, how can my mind even conceive those ages? The truth is, it can't. In those days, someone lived almost an entire millenium. When they rang in a new year, I wonder if it ever got old by year 300? Generations upon generations upon generations - you could literally see your entire family tree living before your eyes.
However, one thing is sad. All this was caused by a simple action. Life spans were cut short, because of a bite of a piece of fruit. At that moment, God put into action His redemptive plan. I am so grateful for that redemption, but it was so much sweeter when people were walking with God through a beautiful garden.
May we walk humbly with our God today regardless of our age.
