Don’t just sit there; DO SOMETHING!
Scripture Reference: Matthew 17:20 (The message version) "Because you're not yet taking God seriously," said Jesus. "The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, 'Move!' and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn't be able to tackle."
Meditation Song: Expect Your Miracle, Clark Sisters
So how long are you just going to sit there and let life just continue to pass you by before you do something about it? Are you going to keep sitting there and allowing time to be your enemy instead of your ally? You know you want to go here or do that. You know you want to try this and you want to try that. So when are you going to actually do it? Yea this is a call to action.
Okay we’ve dealt with your past and even it’s residue (see previous writings). We’ve also talked about 7 steps to change your life. Now when are you going to actually start to believe God and exercise some of this faith that you have to move life ahead? How long are you going to allow your friends to surpass you in life? How long are you going to keep trying to keep up the facade that you have everything together and your life is working out just fine?
The message version of the above scripture really captures what I’m trying to say in this writing piece. You’re not taking God seriously! You don’t really believe he has all these awesome things for you to do in your life. If you believed it, you’d get up and DO SOMETHING!
If I screamed out that someone has a gun; wouldn’t you run and duck? Seems like human nature doesn’t it? If you saw 19 people all running the same way (especially if you’re black LOL) wouldn’t you start running? If it’s good enough for the 19; I’m just saying it’s good enough for me to be #20! If a man began to attack one of your siblings or children, wouldn’t you do something about it? Even if the assailant were bigger and “badder” than you; you’d still do something. Okay well I’m screaming at you right now at the top of my lungs because the enemy is attacking your life and you’re just sitting there. DON’T JUST SIT THERE! DO SOMETHING! He’s fooling and tricking you. He’s making you believe that it’s too late or too difficult to accomplish; be it graduating school or getting that promotion. Maybe you’re supposed to be a business owner and you’re still working for UPS. What things are you allowing time to pass by on?
Too often we sit back and watch life pass us by. When we were younger we had goals and dreams. But when we got older and life got a hold of us, we began to forget the things that we wanted to accomplish. We stopped going after some goals because life became an issue. It seemed at some point that everyone else in your graduating class was doing better than you. It seemed that everyone in the neighborhood you used to hang around is doing more than you. So-in-so moved to Atlanta and you’re still in Clarksdale. Stacy done went (ain’t I country?) and gotten herself hitched and you’re still living the chaste life right?
Man I can not tell you the times in my life that I’ve felt like life is just passing me by. It started when I was 18, just graduated out of high school and my mindset was; what now? What could I have done differently in high school? Then it happened again right around 21. Okay cool, I can legally drink….now what? LOL. It’s been 3 years since H.S. Have I accomplished anything? Then the quarter-life crisis happens at 25 when you realize that your high school reunion is only 2 years away! You thought you were going to buy that first house by now. You thought you’d be years into your career by now. Around 30 you start to look back over the last 10 years and see every mistake you’ve ever made. 40 is when you start to feel old and you’re nervous about retirement. 50 is midlife crisis and you feel like you can’t do anything anymore. 60 is just depressing and who even lives to 70 anymore these days?
You may use age as I did in the above paragraph or you may use demographics. You may use the trifling family you were “blessed” with or the neighborhood you grew up in. The bottom line here is THEY ARE EXCUSES for you sitting there and doing nothing! Life is passing you by and as far as we know it, you don’t get a second chance. So I’ll say it again; DON’T JUST SIT THERE! DO SOMETHING!
The scripture reference above comes from the story of a man who brought his son to the disciples to be healed from his demons and the disciples could not do it. Jesus does it and at the same time teaches a valuable lesson. He says to them, after they asked how come they weren’t able to cast out the demons , (message version) “Because you don’t take God seriously!” Let’s stop right there. Do you take God seriously? No for real. Do you really take him seriously? Do you really believe that he has made you to be such an awesome being and to accomplish such great things? We’ll come back to this question, so remember it. He goes on to say, “The simple truth is that if you had a mere kernel of faith, a poppy seed, say, you would tell this mountain, 'Move!' and it would move. There is nothing you wouldn't be able to tackle." I love that last line. THERE IS NOTHING YOU WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO TACKLE. WOW.
Alright let’s put this all together now. Jesus teaches them here that they don’t have the faith needed to accomplish the task at hand. Is that your problem? If we exercised that James 2:17 scripture of faith being without works is dead; then our faith and our works would match. Your problem is (1). You don’t take God seriously. (2). You don’t have enough faith. (3). You probably don’t have enough faith because your faith is on life support due to your LACK OF WORKS!
Remember that question from earlier? Think about that question and then look back at the 3 points I just listed to you. I think you’ll come up with the answer to that question based upon your response to the 3 points and you’ll have the keys to not just sit there but DO SOMETHING……NOW!
