Life as an Intercessor

Paul lived his life as an intercessor as we all are called to do. He helped others get connected to God as he lived his life with God. I see this all throughout Philippians. His heart was to see others have right relationship with God, enemies and partners alike. He not only prayed for them but worked with them. He sacrificed time, energy, or plainly his life for the purpose of intercession of man and God. His worship of God in this fashion was the essence of His joy. He lived for the glory of God and God gave him all the joy for doing so. Intercession is doing and not just praying. Paul understood He must sacrifice in order to worship God and tells us to do the same.

To intercede is to intervene and aid in the repair of the broken relationship between another and God. Jesus was the intervention plan from God and because He succeeded, we can also intervene for others only because we are connected to Him. We can never be the bridge that takes others to God but we can lead others to the bridge. That is everyone’s purpose in life, to be leading others to the bridge that has ultimately interceded for us and has provided the one and only path to God. I am only participating in intercession as I am worshipping God and pointing others to Him. If I’m not doing this, I’m not living for God or with Him.

God you are the reason I breathe. Please help me not to forget that. I don’t want to live if you are not glorified in my life. I’ve sacrificed so little for you. I’m grateful that you have given me the opportunity to sacrifice for your kingdom. I’m so sorry for the times I chose not to. I understand that it is through our sacrifices others can be joined to you. Help me to not hang on so toughly to my life but lay it down even more for the sake of others. Amen!
