Be humble...
2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.
This week I have used this verse with helping my 12 yr old son; teaching him about pride and being proud. I also keep this verse in my heart and mind. Everyone loved to feel accomplished, and proud. We also want others to notice. Recently I over heard my 12 yr old, being prideful of a huge task that he had accomplished. He did work hard at this task, and he did give his best. I was quite proud of him myself, up to the point where I heard him being boastful. Later I pulled him aside and shared this verse with him and told him:
"Of course I want you to feel good about a job well done, and I want you to work your best. I want you to be successful, and accomplish many things, but what I don't want is the praise to come from your own mouth. If you want to be praised, then do the work that deserves praise. Work at everything as if your working for the Lord, and leave it at that. Feel good about it, but cover your mouth that you don't boast. Be humble, be full of grace, and be thankful that you can accomplish tasks that are difficult because it is the Lord that trust and giving you that job! Do it for HIM..."
