Reflecting On Jesus' Sacrifice

As we commemorate this most holy week, we should remember the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for us. And this should extend beyond this week, we should remember daily what Jesus did in order for us to be reconciled with our heavenly Father. This passage is when prophet Isaiah prophesied what would occur 600 years later to Jesus.

Isaiah prophesies about all that Christ would suffer. He said when they "saw him beaten and bloodied, so disfigured one would scarcely know he was a person." And even though "there was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised, and we did not care." In spite of this, God still showed us His saving power. Unfortunately, at times we still turn on backs on Christ and look the other way when He comes by. It's probably even worst that we do it, considering we have seen the sacrifice that Christ has made for us.

And in spite of all the people did to Him and what we still do Him. Christ carried our weaknesses. "It was our sorrows that weighed him down" And silly us we thought the troubles Jesus faced were a punishment from God for his own sins. No! Jesus was "wounded and crushed for our sins". He also was "beaten that we might have peace". Jesus was whipped, and by His stripes we are healed!

God did all this for us even though we had our agendas instead of God agendas. He laid the guilt and our sins on His perfect son. And even though Jesus, faced much oppression, opposition, and was treated harshly He never complained. He knew the short-term pain, would be worth the long-term gain.

God is sovereign and has a purpose and plan out of everything. He gave his only begotten son as sin offering in hopes to gain a multiple of children. Now Jesus sits on the right hand of the Father, and once He sees all what is accomplished by "his anguish, he will be satisfied". Because of what Jesus did for us we are counted to be righteous, since he bore all our sins. This should one of the many reasons we give honor to Jesus, because He exposed Himself to death for us. Not only did Jesus bear the sins of many, He also intercedes for sinners.

I can't describe how moved I have been by this passage. Jesus went through so much just for us. His death and resurrection should mean so much to us. We have been forgiven, redeemed, and now we have the freedom to walk with God through this fallen world ultimately into eternity. Praise God for His extended grace and mercy! Praise God that He loved and loves us enough to give us another chance.

I feel it we practice daily keeping in mind what Jesus did for us that our lives will truly never be the same. It is because of His sacrifice that our lives never have to be the same.
