Aaron and the successive high priests had to go through many atonement and cleansing rituals before they could approach God. Only the high priests could approach God on behalf of the people and atone for sins. Praise God for His Son Jesus who died on behalf of us. He made us holy and able to approach God individually and at any time. Now we are priests and have a duty, like Aaron did, to approach God and intercede on others' behalf.
