Relationship.
19 Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I tell their faults and convict and convince and reprove and chasten [I discipline and instruct them]. So be enthusiastic and in earnest and burning with zeal and repent [changing your mind and attitude]. AMP Ver
I love how this verse reads in the Amplified Version as it seems to describe so well what relationship is all about. The Lord wants a real relationship with us, he is not just looking for Robots. In the book by Timothy Keller 'The Reason for God' he makes this point making referance to the film, 'The Stepford Wives'. I actually watched this film last night, not a great film but it does ask some interesting questions about what an individual is looking for when it comes to a relationship.
In a true relationship all the truths set out in Rev 3 v 19 are involved and for any relationship to develop then repentance is involved, and that is beautifully described here as 'changing ones mind and attitude'. In my marrage I know for sure that I am not the same man that my wife married 31 years ago, and I am also very much aware that there are plenty of areas in my life where there is still plenty of room for change.
