I find that the words used is this passage follow an interesting progression. To Walk, To Stand, To Sit. Each of these words involves a conscious choice of placing oneself in the influence or the company of those that have the potential to influence your life in dramatic ways.

To understand this better, I took a look at some of the other ways the verse could be translated from the original text. Here is what I came up with...

To Walk in this context involves the act of "living" or "dwelling" in something. It is an active participation in not only the life, but the activity of those with which you are walking. To Stand in this context seems to indicate a decision to take on the the "stance" or "attitude" of the sinners the Psalmist is describing. To sit looks to convey the idea of "resting in" or "yeilding to" those called scoffers.
