Cravings
The world around us want us to be all about us. It offers us physical pleasure (lust, gluttony). It creates a desire in us for what we see (envy, covetousness, greed) and pride in what we own and have achieved. All of these things feed our desires, our dreams, our wills and makes us gods unto ourselves, causing us to lay at an altar of our own making and bask in our own glory.
Self absorption is what Christ came for, it is what He died for. He died to set us free from this sin that causes us to miss out on the best possible thing for us, the best possible thing in the universe, HIM! The things that we so desire and lust for will not mean anything to us when we have to stand before the judgement seat of Christ and give an account to Him for our lives. The glory we gained from these trinkets will look like a match compared to awesome glory of God that we missed out on. These desires are not from the Father their from our flesh and our flesh/sin nature wants us to miss out on what we were created to crave, Christ. The world is fading and so are all these things. But obedience and pleasing God last forever.
Daddy, forgive me when I have traded in basking in your wonderful glory for my own selfish ambitions. Forgive me for craving and desiring things that don't matter in eternity. Lord, help me to keep my eyes on you and off the things of this world. Help me to remember that this is not my home and your eternal glory is worth more than these trinkets. Help me to keep you first. I love you Lord, in Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
