Peter picks a leader
From Easter till Pentecost i have been reading, journaling and praying that the fullness of God's spirit would be more active and alive in my life. I have been reading from the Luke and Acts of how the early believers began to be filled and follow the spirit of God, experience his power and see the resulting activity that fulfills God's purpose in the world. In this passage i find it interesting that Peter does the thing that - up till now only Jesus had done (and that only 12 times) - and picks a disciple. He sets the parameters, they had to be with the group from John's baptism till the time of Jesus death and also be a witness to his ascension. the crowd gets skinny - only two guys were left standing with the winning tickets. and to find God's choice and break the tie Peter gave instruction to roll the dice. Mattias comes out as God's choice. The impression i get is that no one had a problem with this. they all went away satisfied that God's will was done. But if you think of it, it was all orchestrated by human elements. The human elements were filled with the spirit of God. SO God's purposes and will were fulfilled as Peter understood them to be.
