Defeat the World
1 John 5:5
Satan is a greater being than we are. The bible tells me he was created with such an incredible ability to reflect the glory of God, the very essence of his nature was worship. Satan became prideful and began to desire that he be worshiped. So he rebelled against God, his creator, with a 3rd of the angels attempting to overtake the throne. Of course they were overcome and as punishment they were thrown into the lake of fire otherwise known as the eternal wrath of God forever banished from His presence. This same Satan is ruling over the world in which we live with a desire to offend His creator, God, by enticing more or God’s created beings to rebel against Him. The bible is clear; Satan is the ruler of this world. John says the only ones who can defeat the world are those who believe Jesus is the Son of God.
It’s really easy to look at our circumstances and feel like we are losing. There are so many lost souls roaming around the world living in darkness instinctively participating on Satan’s side. I went out to a rough area of town last weekend to share the good news about Jesus Christ and most of the people I talked to had admitted an uncertainty about their soul’s destination after death. With most of them having had been exposed to Jesus Christ in the church, it was bothersome to witness the trouble they have believing Jesus is the Christ. They’re even people in the church having trouble believing Jesus is who He said He is. Even in me, there are times when my experience makes more since then the word of God. And yet, the answer lies in how one sees Jesus Christ. The battle taking place is real. Those who have been given the faith to believe in Jesus as the Christ are protected from the evil one by that very same faith. We must exercise our faith in Him to be refined and made into His image. Without Him, we will lose the battle.
Daddy, thank you so much for your power over Satan. You are far greater than anything you have ever created. I wasn’t made with the same abilities and power as Satan but I have a big brother, Jesus, who is greater than he that is in the world. Help me to not be so foolish and try to fight this thing on my own. Humble me and position myself under the wing of your protection. Help me to be patient enough in times of pressure to stay behind you and allow you to be glorified in my life. Others souls depend on it. You are my Lord. Amen!
