Humble Means

How can God, creator of the universe, be so humble? John connects it to the love He has for His children. “For God so loved the world that He gave is only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” His deep abiding love keeps Him in the humble position of looking out for my interest before His own. This humility is seen in so many ways. Poor and homeless, He was born in a manger. He was completely dependent on the nurturing and leadership of his earthly mother and father. Not only was He dependant, He was submissive to the authority God had placed Him under. This was not only his mother and father but also his teachers’/Rabbis’, governmental structure and its leaders’, and any other authority over his life. This is an amazing humility. God subjected himself to the structures developed by the servants of His adversary. He did this in the name of love, a love I can never be separated from.

God gave His only Son to demonstrate how I am to love Him. This is the only type of love He is willing to accept from me, a love of humility marked by a willingness to give up my life to honor. This is His testimony. That He put eternal life in His Son and those who identify with the truth of who His Son is will have it. Because I am in His Son, I will love like His Son. I will love God and I will love others. If I don’t, John is clear in stating I am not in Him. Humility will allow me to others. To be honest, it’s hard for me to love people who seem to be less than I am. For example, people who live on the street, people who have drug or alcohol addictions, people who are poor, people who are less attractive and or appear unclean. God is terrifyingly offended by my prejudices. Oh, how I hate this condition of my flesh. The reality of it all is that I’m not humble. How could the creator of the universe consider make Himself lower than me? The answer is perspective. I have a long way to go but thanks be to God who is working in me teaching me to see things the way He sees them.

Thank you Daddy! You have been so kind and patient with me. I know I frustrate you time and time again. Please don’t give up on me. I know you won’t but I hate offending you. Help me to be more sensitive to your spirit. My life depends on it. Your name rides on it. Use me in a mighty way to proclaim the truth of your testimony. In Jesus name, Amen!
