Signs

In my OT 2 Class Dr John Ditty talked about Gideon asking for a sign. He says that him asking for a sign was showing that Gideon's faith was weak but God knowing his heart gave him the sign to get him to move forward.

Dr Ditty said this is not a great practice to always ask for a sign because for one thing Satan does have power and can mimic some things to trick us. That is why 1 John 4:1 says to test every spirit. Don't walk through a door until you have tested and made sure that God was the one who opened it. It also should be said that just because something seems the right or "good" thing to do, doesn't mean it's the BEST thing to do. Satan will try to get us to a bunch of little "good" deeds instead of the one BEST thing that God is calling us to do.

Also keep in mind that Jesus said in Matthew 16:4 - a wicked and adulteress generation asks for a sign and Hebrews 11:6 says, "without faith, it is impossible to please God."
