Our comforter
I just love God's provisions for us. Isn't it just like God to know that because of man's free will, we are going to need someone to comfort us? He saw a need and He met that need. He sent the best man to do the job.....JESUS! While Jesus was here on earth he warned us that we would have troubles. He encouraged us by bringing us peace and reminding us that He has overcome the world.
The definition of the word 'comforter' must not be taken lightly. Obviously, the word is defined within itself, 'one that comforts'. It's synonyms include: consoler, friend, pacifier & sympathizer. A comforter is also a covering. Think of sometimes when small children are afraid, they have a natural instinct to hide under a blanket (or covering)! There is so much to be learned through the innocence of a child. No wonder why Jesus said we must become like them to enter heaven!!
Although Jesus comforted the disciples while he was still walking on earth, ultimately, through His death & resurrection, He sent the Holy Spirit down to us to live within us, during our physical separation, to meet our needs. He knew that we needed the presence of God to stay with us, intercede for us, guide us through revelations, as well as comfort us. Thank God for His provisions!!
Jesus made it clear in His teachings that there was only one way to the Father, and that was through Him. I think one of His greatest promises lies within this scripture (John 14:3)...."And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
WOW!! What a promise! He's gone, He's preparing a place for us. That means, He will come back and take us to be with Him where He is!! Do you realize that this is the greatest opportunity of our lives? The ultimate relocation!!! It will be the last time we ever have to move, and there will be no room for complaints. We won't have anything to cry about, we will feel pain no longer, etc. Truth be told, sometimes in life, I find it hard not to be anxious for my great relocation!! To be with the Lord forever in the place He has prepared especially for those whot have believed. WOW!!
But until that time, we press toward the prize. For each moment we are still here in the world, we know He still has work for us to do....so that hopefully we can bring some people along the way with us. :) Hope to see you there!
