we repent God forgives

20 He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. 21 "The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. 22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God. 23 All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. 24 I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. 25 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in his sight.

This passage is so interesting to me because David is declaring that part of the reason God has rescued him was not only the fact that God delighted in him but because he kept eh ways of the Lord and had not been guilty of turning from Him. Now in my mind I’m thinking that the sin with Bathsheba was defiantly not the way of the Lord or what He had in mind. But never the less David declares that God has rewarded him according to his righteousness.

This helps me to better understand two things; repentance and forgiveness. David repented from past sins and God forgave him. David knew that God doesn’t remember our past as the enemy often likes to remind us of; we repent God forgives. David moved on to a free and open relationship with God believing in faith that He was (Just as God viewed him) righteous before Him. I need to allow God’s forgiveness to penetrate deep into my heart and accept that He views me as righteous and loves me and will reward me as a result.

God thank you so much that when you say you forgive you truly mean it. Help me resist the enemy’s lies that would say I am not good enough to serve in your kingdom!
