John 6:1-14
I am busy reading “Confessions of a Reformission Rev” by Mark Driscoll. The book is basically about his journey of seeing his church grow from a plant to where it is not and the lessons he has learned. I guess the bottom line of the story is that every stage of the journey is a challenge and a walk of faith. I can’t help but think of the saying, “With every level comes another devil.” WHen growing your church, or growing your life, there will always be challenges to overcome. It will be like this till Jesus comes.
In John 6, Jesus feeds the 5000 people who had come to listen to him preach because they were hungry. Their hunger was the challenge to overcome. So Jesus asks Philip to do something about it (a test). Philip’s answer is, “I can’t do it”. So Andrew steps in a gives a suggestion of a young boy who has some fish and bread. Jesus takes Andrews suggestion and makes it multiply.
While Philip brought nothing to the table, Andrew brought something. Work with what you have.
The answer was not only in something, but someone – the young boy. God wants us to develop to someone in order to perform the something.
When God asks you to do something (like build his church), He WILL help you succeed.
No matter where you are in life, challenges will come. But seek God and He will help you overcome.
