called to stay put?

This part of scripture has continued to draw my attention throughout the last week. Paul lays it down in the first chapter about thinking of who we were when God first called us, and then lays it down again with remaining in the position.

I'm sure that I still don't have the full on grasp of what God was saying through Paul here, but for me there is some confusion. Paul is talking mainly about marriage and remaining where we were in regards to that. Yet he also talks about other stages of life, with no regard to marriage.

A thought has crossed my mind that through encountering Christ, we are changed radically. Everything about us changes - goals, desires, speech, action, sometimes even career path. But I have many friends who would go on to say that our career paths would inevitably change upon encountering and selling out for Christ. But isn't Paul saying here that some of us - through encountering Christ - are called to stay where we are, even in regards to career placement?
