Payday Loans and Financial Freedom
Isn't this an curious verse? Those charging outrageous interest rates to the poor in our society today are the credit card companies and the pay-day loan operations. They consistently steal money away from folks who work their entire lives as "slaves to their debt" (Proverbs 22:7).
According to this Proverb, these sharks are not the ones who ultimately will end up with the money. The author is anticipating that the money will end up in the hands of those who are kind to the poor. That means folks helping people out of debt deserve some kind of payment - money that would have otherwise gone to the creditors. A worker is worthy of his wages.
