How We Add to God's Words
When I think about adding to God's words, what tends to come to mind first is taking what's written in the Bible and adding onto it, thus changing what the Scriptures say and mean. Or, I think about churches who do not preach the whole truth, or any truth at all for that matter. When I read this today, though, I thought of a much more personal meaning.
How do we add to God's words? How do I? I think this happens when I make compromises to His promises. For example, if the Bible clearly states not to do something, I justify exceptions to the point where I feel I'm able to go against the Word of God. If the Bible commands for us to do something, I think of ways to where circumstances don't allow it. In both ways, I'm adding to God's words and changing what He laid out for me to do. When I'm doing this, I am not fully following Him or obeying His commands.
What it means to be a Christ-follower is in the name--we should follow Christ. This means following Him completely, totally and faithfully. When we compromise and tack on our own ways, we are not doing exactly what He says. By the grace of God, Christ-followers can find forgiveness. We should always be examining ourselves to make sure we are on task with Him.
