Does anyone else find this verse hilarious? God's all, "What did you do? How do you know what you're doing is bad?" Instead of saying, "I ate the fruit from the tree of wisdom!" like pre-apple Adam might have said, he's now a smart-ass and goes, "The woman who You gave me fed me that apple."
It seems like the Genesis story is the story of how humans matured. This is the teenage stage where we won't take responsibilities for our own actions. Yes, Eve gave you that apple but you still ate it. Yes, the Serpent told you what the apple would do, but Eve still took the fruit. She also blamed the serpent.
But then God still punishes everyone because we're all responsible for our actions. No mercy. Not even to Adam, who may or may not have heard the serpent.
