Shhhhh.
I was thinking about this verse this morning, and the others like it where Jesus asks people to keep it quiet about who he is. I was wondering how he might have said this; how he might have explained himself. And it occurred to me that the reason he didn't want people talking about the truth they had discovered was because they didn't yet know the whole truth, especially the truth that was really important - the truth of the cross. It's fascinating to me in this context that Jesus immediately goes on to talk about the cross and what he must endure. After Jesus was gone, when the disciples talked to people they talked, first and foremost, about the cross.
