The Law of One-Fifth!?
What impact Joseph hand on his culture! He was not only Israel's deliverer, but Egypts as well! His wisdom provided for the whole world then to avoid extinction bc of the the famine. There is an interesting note about Joseph's wisdom applied to Pharoah's subjects. Pharaoh via Joseph had purchased all of the world because of the famine. Joseph then made a law that said from here on out...since you've been bought and saved by "Pharoah" you will then since he owns you - pay a fifth of all of your increase! After all if it wasn't for him you wouldn't have life in the first place. The people then recognizing their destitution reply...yes, you have saved our lives...we will pay it! It is a sad commentary on the church today that we having been bought and saved from the drought of eternal death...so often stumble at giving back to God what is only ours because He gave it in the first place! God help me to not only be the gratefully responding giver, but please use me to also help the saved and purchased participate in the ministry of reciprocation!
