On "Withdrawing"
important to note here, though the translation of (anachoresin) into "withdraw" is a fair translation, it's meaning today does not really carry the same weight; we tend to equate withdrawing and hiding.
this was clearly not the case: yeshua is not hiding from anybody or anything because he fears john's fate, for example.
in fact, notice that he "withdrew" to the galilee - which is actually under governance from herod antipas: the same man under which john has been arrested! another fair translation then might be, "returned" which is what the niv, i believe, translates it as...
it's almost as if yeshua enters in to the exact place/time where the immerser has left off...they don't miss a beat in these beginning stages of the "great reveal" of the kingdom of heaven.
