Calm in Chaos

Many of the disciples in the fishing boat were experienced fisherman. I read that the Sea of Galilee is an unusual small body of water - 13 miles long, 7 miles wide, 150 feet deep, and the shoreline is 680 feet below sea level. Sudden storms can appear over the surrounding mountains with little warning, stirring the water into violent 20 foot waves. When the disciple's fishing boat sailed that day, the sea was calm and then the furious storm hit. As experienced as these men were, they knew their danger was great. I can see them shaking Jesus to wake Him up fearing they would soon die. Jesus words may seem abrupt ("Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!"v26) but when I read the events prior to the storm, I can understand and I am convicted.

Jesus had healed a leper, a Roman centurion's servant (without ever even seeing him), healed Peter's mother-in-law, the demon-possessed, the incurably diseased and sick. And because He came as God in human flesh, he was tired and needed a rest. I imagine the disciples had been on a spiritual high and felt somewhat invincible to be hanging out with Jesus. Then the storm hits and boom, their faith wavers. Too often this is my story.

Dear Friend, may we be encouraged in the chaos of the storms in our lives, Jesus is the calm and peace we have always. I pray today, God will give you great peace in your storm. He records our tears and He promises to never leave us or forsake us and keep us close as we hold on to Him in faith.
Psalm 56:8-11 "You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help.
This I know: God is on my side! I praise God for what he has promised; Yes, I praise the Lord for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?"
