God's Law

Over and over in Psalm 119 David speaks about God's Law; his precepts, his commands, his decrees. In David's time the Torah (the first five books of the Bible) was the Law and he seems obsessed with it.

We know from God's Word that David was a man after his own heart. If we follow logic, then God's heart was in the Law. How can this be? Doesn't the Law bring only death, according to Romans 7:10? Paul continues in chapter 7 of Romans to conclude that the Law is holy and good but it is he who is sinful and dead.

This is all a bit confusing. Perhaps I don't understand the Word well enough. Or I don't understand the Word in context to the ancient eastern mind. God, enlighten me through your Holy Spirit.
