Whom do you serve?

Generations prior to Jesus' denouncement by the crowds, the people of Israel stood before a judge named Samuel and begged him "Appoint a king for us to judge us like all the [other] nations." (1 Sam 8:5) To this, God responded to Samuel,"...they have rejected me from being king over them." (1 Sam 8:7).

Here again, when presented with Christ, the true king and son of God, descendants of those same people swear they have no king except Caesar. They again reject God as king over them in favor of one who will give them what they want.

Why do we fight God so hard for control over our lives? Why does it come so naturally? It seems to me that if I don't fight to follow God, then I am naturally bent toward moving away from him. It's much like trying to go up a down escalator. If I don't keep moving, I'm automatically moving backwards.

So you and I must make a choice. Who will be our King? Whom do you serve?
