It's easy to wonder why God would harden the heart of Pharaoh. It seems completely counterproductive to His plan.

In Exodus 5:22-6:1, God implies that the reason He hardened Pharaoh's heart and made life tougher on the Hebrew people was so that their freedom would be even that much more miraculous and celebrated.
