Confess his grace, not just your sin
Psalm 51 is the classic text on repentance. The psalmist is completely obsessed with forgiveness and restoration. Specifically of interest to me was the writer's focus was not on his failure but on God's capacity and nature to cleanse. The grace of God is more powerful than my guilt, his pleasure in reconciliation is more potent than my insistence in hiding from him. So often our confessions are about exposing our sin and wrongness, but we must also remember to confess God's capacity to love and forgive! My confession is all God needs to span the chasm of our broken relationship and to invite me to dwell in proximity to him forever.
