The Practical Side of God.

God's wisdom in the captivity of the Jews in Egypt is seen in the skills they acquired while there. They were required to serve the needs of the most advanced and powerful culture of the times. They learned the technology of the culture and acquired a wide range of occupational skills, including metal working, wood working, weaving, leather tanning, husbandry, and design. They probably learned how to work in crews and teams to complete work projects for their masters.

One practical reason Pharaoh and his advisors resisted the exodus was that the Jews were a major engine of their economy, and not easily replaced. God foresaw His people would need these skills to run their own economy and to build their own nation. The elaborate work of building the tabernacle, designing and crafting the ark, the altar, the curtains, the ceremonial implements and robes, are all evidence of an already highly skilled workforce.

Praise to our God who cares for our future in all its details, both great and small.
