Convenience
24Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus.25As Paul talked about righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you."26At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him.

Felix was not fearful of Paul, otherwise he probably would not have brought Drusilla to hear him. This implies he did not believe the accusations made against Paul by the Jews. So why keep Paul in jail? Was it merely for the potential bribe?
One thing is clear, Felix was completely addicted to consuming things for his own comfort. He listens to Paul for a while, probably finds the ideas interesting, but then tires of Paul's words and sends Paul away. He even states "when it is convenient I will send for you". Of course, Paul chose to talk about righteousness, self-control, and judgement. Paul wasn't an idiot, and Paul wasn't a coward. Did he choose to speak about those things that Felix most need to hear? Absolutely.
Perhaps some part of Felix was drawn to the truth Paul spoke. Felix, after all, was created by God, and had a soul that longed to connect to his Creator. But he also had power, comfort, and leisure. So while the truth may have been compelling, he wasn't in need of it and he certainly wasn't going to take seriously any words that threatened his comfortable position. So he sends truth away until it's convenient.
Father. Please draw my attention to your truth, and keep me aware of when I hold my comfort above being a devoted disciple. Bring this awareness to our church.
