Doubting the Promises of God

As I was reading this familiar Scripture passage, I was struck by the fact that the command not to eat the fruit was given to Adam before Eve was formed. When Satan was choosing who to tempt, he went after Eve possibly because she was more likely to doubt what God had said because she had been told by Adam instead of hearing it directly from God.

This holds true for much of the Old Testament. God made promises to the people of Israel, but the following generations would forget or doubt the promises. God would get their attention, usually through pain and suffering, and they would return to Him, only for the next generation to fall away and repeat the cycle.

We have to do a better job of ensuring the next generation understands the promises of God and is not a walking target for Satan. When Eve gave the fruit to Adam, it says he was with her, meaning he didn't speak up when she was being tempted.

Instead of remaining silent when someone we love is in a place of doubt or uncertainty in the face of temptation, we must speak Truth and remind them of the promises of God. God may have done some awesome things for us individually, but if we don't tell our stories and encourage each other, we are setting our brothers and sisters up for failure.
