Security
Security is a relative term. We desperately, perhaps selfishly, want it to mean a life where nothing is at risk, there is no pain, there are no threats, there are no uncertainties about tomorrow.
Well. That's just not how it is.
Like all of you, my life is rife with unsettling uncertainties. The combination of my sins, my foolish choices and the general broken condition of this world guarantees we are perpetually set up for heartbreak, disappointment and powerful jolts of unexpected reverses.
But then I read the words of my Savior. He promises that those who know him and follow him are truly his and that no one and nothing can snatch us away from him.
So regardless of what I might fear tomorrow will bring, I can find rest and comfort in these words. Even if tomorrow is worse than I imagine, all is not lost because I am not lost. He is my Good Shepherd. And he holds me -- and you -- in his arms, by his heart, today and tomorrow and all the days to come.
