Becoming the Word
I was reading my bible and noticed that I don't highlight verses anymore. Not even one liners that I like in other books that I read. It prompted me to ask the Lord why I quit doing that. The Holy Spirit spoke: "This is because the highlights are no longer in the book, they are on you!"
WOW - what a statement. We are the word, we are called to not just live according to the principles drawn out in the bible but we are invited to a HIGHER calling of BEING the principles in the bible. This is a defining moment, a point in time that the Holy Spirit is beckoning for us to step in to our inheritance. It is time that we change our old way of thinking. *Be transformed by the renewing of your mind and it is then when you will know the true and perfect will of God* [Paraphrase ROM 12:2] We are to change our thinking in regards to the Bible and the Spiritual gifts therein.
For example we have an understanding that we need to get scripture and the gifts of the Spirit and internalize them. This is not correct! I understand the thinking which is to internalize what is good so that it will grow deep roots which in turn bears fruit externally. What I don't get is why are we trying to internalize the Holy Spirit? This is a carnal mindset. The Holy Spirit was imparted to us and became One with our spirit on that eternal day of Pentecost! The carnal mindset is something not to be ashamed of but it is to be understood as a wall or a dam if you will. A dam that restricts the natural flow of the river aka the Holy Spirit.
I don't believe that the carnal mindset should be taught as a negative aspect of life. I consider it a gift from God and not a decoy of the devil. It is what gives us the ability to rationalize our surroundings and make decisions. There are times where God will use the carnal mindset to expose the greater things of the Spirit. For example sometimes we will have an encounter with God that completely supersedes our comprehension on the matter. When this happens we have no choice but to rely on the Holy Spirit to give us incite. This exposes the fact that our understanding of our minds is limited - Thus creating a need for an intimate relationship with the Abba father, our creator and friend. Oh praise the Lord that we are incapable of grasping the infinite wisdom.
So instead of trying to internalize the Spirit through scripture and other means - we are called to expose the treasure with in. Let’s feed the Spirit that already lives in us! If God is in the word and God is in us then why must we teach that in order to be full of the Spirit we have to internalize the word and what it says? I believe that this is backwards theology. The bible was written to guide us down the path of the revelation of the cross and what the cross completed. We are one with the Spirit therefore need to expose what has all ready been place within. The carnal mindset and the flesh is simply a vial that covers what is inside. When the Lord spoke He said the "highlights are ON you". Now why did he say the highlights were ON you and not In you? This is because what lies within is supposed to be apparent on the outside. He is asking that we expose the gifts of the spirit - so we put in to practice and we use what He has freely given to us. The idea is that we become the message rather then read the message.
