Living It Out
It says here that the disciples would recieve the Holy Spirit and that they would be His witnessess "unto the ends of the earth"What I get from that is that once WE recieve God into our lives and give ourselves back to Him we receive the Holy Spirit into our lives; once this happens, we wiil be given the strength and help to be His witnesses everywhere we go--or "unto the ends of the earth." I also think that we won't be witnesses just because we receive the help to do so, I believe that once we start our personal walk with God we automatically WANT to spread His love and light wherever we go. I think when we want to do this, thats when we let the Holy Spirit come into action. He says to knock and the door will be opened, and I think that this means the same thing; when we want to spread Him wherever we go and we put ourselves out there and expect the Holy Spirit's help is like us "knocking", and when the Holy Spirit comes and gives us the help we've "knocked" for, this is Him "opening the door." I believe that we can become Christians without allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives; it's as simple as not taking that first step in our walk with Him and not growing our relationship with Him. How can the Holy Spirit help us if we aren't doing anything that could possibly need or lead to the need of the help it's offering us? If we are to see the Holy Spirit at work or expirience it in our lives or the lives of others through us, then we need to be cultivating a growing, healthy, relationship with Him and His word--and not just on Sundays, EVERYday. Only when we ask can something be given to us. I think this verse kindof simplifies why we Christians feel it is our calling and mission to spread Him wherever we go; if we look at this verse it tells us we do this because we have accepted Him into our hearts and lives and therefore have accepted the Holy Spirit as well, the result of which is the need to see it at work in our lives and others; the need of which can only be satisfied by sharing Him everywhere we go from our neighborhood, to our school, and "unto the ends of the earth."
