Life is full of uncertainties. Although we do not like to admit it, we can predict or control very little in our lives. Good things happen. Bad things happen. Often there appears to be no rhyme or reason to our condition on earth and that can be frustrating. It can lead us to think that what we do doesn't really matter. But that is the furthest thing from the truth. Solomon tells us that life is full of risk and opportunity and because there are no guarantees in life, we must be prepared for the good and the bad. Being prepared means taking the steps necessary to serve God and grow spiritually regardless of our conditions. We cannot wait for the perfect conditions to begin tithing, go on a mission trip, start a Bible study, visit a friend who doesn't know Christ,re-establish a broken relationship with a loved one, or join a church. If we wait for the perfect conditions, we will never do anything. One of my favorite quotes from Teddy Roosevelt seems relevant to this scripture..."Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Take the steps you feel God is directing you to take and HE will take care of the rest.
