Running=numbness

My youth group is going throught the book of Jonah right now and tonight my youth pastor pointed out something I had been thinking was really cool; in this portion of the chapter a huge storm is raging on the sea--a storm so bad that the ship is ready to break into pieces--yet Jonah was sleeping during all of this! What my pastor said that was really interesting was that Jonah wasn't just a guy that was a REALLY deep sleeper, what seemed to be happening there was that Jonah didn't really care about his life anymore at that point. As soon as they woke him and got the truth out of him, he didn't really care about being thrown overboard; he didn't really care about his life at that point. My pastor pointed out that you don't really care about your life without God as the center and purpose of it--you'll become like Jonah: numb and indifferent to life. You'll be able to sleep the "storms" in your life and won't care if you are being thrown "overboard" in your life.
