Plan While In The Pit!

Meditation Song: I can't give up now- Mary Mary

"I just can't give up now. I've come too far from where I started from." An awesome line in this week's meditation song and the premise of this week's WEEKLY WORD; Plan While in the Pit.

When I came back to Chicago from living in California for a couple of years, I had the thought of, "what do I do now?" And honestly I wanted to give up a few times. I just wanted to give up on trying to go after some of these large goals I had set for myself. I mean what's the point? I went to Cali thinking I would stay for the rest of my life only to return to Chicago and sometimes feeling like a failure.

Now I came back home to be with and help my family but that fact didn't make me feel any better. This family was in the shape it was in when I left so it was no new thing that they needed help! Now, after much prayer, I believe God sent me there for ministry preparation to be ready for New Vision Ministries International (my new forming Church here in Chicago). But I still didn't like it! Preparation or not, I didn't plan on returning here to Chicago! I love my city, but I needed a change.

I felt like I was back in the same pit I had moved out of. In Cali I was hobnobbing with stars including this week's artists on the meditation song. I had lunch with them, met their Children. I met and hung out with gospel stars, music producers, mega Church pastors and who can forget the weather! It was never below 70 degrees in the daytime. A big change from the 8 million degrees below zero that Chicago has! LOL

Back to Chicago......Cold (and I had the nerve to come back in the winter!), family draining me, not where I want to live, not where I want to be! I'm back to my pit. I'm back to the place that represented the lowest point in my life. Oh yea I was preaching and teaching and training and yada yada yada, but I felt like Cali was the pinnacle and Chi was the pit! At least for me it was.

Well this is where things can get tricky. How do you handle your business in the pit? How do you get yourself out of your own pit? The answer is very simple; You've got to plan while in the pit! You've got to plan your progress or you'll demand your demise! Even while in the lowest places in your life, you've got to learn how to plan your way out!

The pit is as low as you can go; but doesn't that sound like a foundation? There's 2 things at the 'bottom'; the pit and the foundation. You've got to know how to move yourself out of the pit and into the foundation for your next level! You can't build a skyscraper until you get a good foundation! So for all you sky scrapers, you dream chasers, you sky-is-the-limiters--your pit is just the foundation to your next level!

One thing I learned while in California is how they build their tall buildings. Out there in "earthquake country," you can't build a building like you would in Chicago. The buildings there have to have a strong foundation and be built on the bedrock. If you don't know what the earth's bedrock is, let me take you back to geology class. Bedrock in Cali is about 50-60 below the surface. It's unbroken solid rock that is millions of years old. You've got to get an, "upon this ROCK" mentality!

Christ said in Matthew 16:18 that, "upon this ROCK I will build my church." Upon the bedrock of your spiritual life (Christ), you've got to learn how to build your life. You've got to learn how to build your skyscraper!

You've also got to learn that even in your lowest points, God is there. David said in Psalms 139:8 that if, "I ascend to the heavens you are there. If I make my bed in hell, you are there." God is always there for you even in your pit! So then you combine the fact that he is always there for you with the scripture from Philippians 4:13that through (and with) him you can do ALL things!

In your pit; let it be the place of preparation, planning and praise. In the P.I.T. is where you
P-Put
I-In
T-Time towards your destiny! If you can plan while you're at the bottom, then you can relax when you get to the top!

Know that you WILL get to the top! You've got to keep on the press towards the prize of the high calling of God. You missed that. I can tell cause you're still reading...the word said I PRESS (to pursue in a hostile manner) towards the mark (the goal)for the prize of the HIGH......HIGH......HIGH calling! If Paul is pressing, that means he's not quite there yet. I will venture to say that maybe he's in his pit! But he wants to PRESS towards the HIGH calling! EVEN IN YOUR PIT, YOU'VE GOT TO PRESS TOWARDS YOUR HIGH CALLING!

Don't just shoot for the next level, shoot for the high calling! Don't just aim your efforts towards getting out of the pit, plan for the high calling! Mediocrity is not your friend! You are great! You are strong! You are more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37) 'cause Christ made you so!

So in your pit, plan for your purpose! In your pit, push towards your progress! In your pit, press towards the high prize, just remember it's in Christ Jesus!
