Relentlessly Pursuing Perfection

An excerpt from the “Lead Like Jesus” online devotional:
When I require something of others that I am not willing to do myself, I set a double standard. When I say one thing but do another, I forfeit integrity. If I promise something but never follow through, I destroy trust. If I manipulate people and circumstances, I am practicing deceit. Such hypocrisy can easily settle into the life of one who does not focus on the Lord. The Scripture is clear: these things are never pleasing to the Lord and have no place in the life of one who seeks to lead like Jesus. The Lord detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please Him. Proverbs 20:23
When I read that I thought about a tagline, that an automaker uses. I saw it on my way in to work the other day. I was behind a Lexus that was headed in the same direction as I, and on the license plate frame was the Lexus name at the top, and then it had Lexus’ tag line on the bottom of the frame.
“The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection”
So, at 6:30 in the morning it dawned on me. That’s Christ-like leadership. No human on this planet is 100% perfect. Never was, never is, never will be, and that is fine by me. But, there is one who is perfect, and He demands that we give up our desires to relentlessly pursue his perfection. You will never reach total perfection during your however long stent on this earth. What if, just what if we daily decided to pursue Jesus' perfection? Could we do that? Would we be too bound to our desires to consider that pursuit?
In order to free us from those bindings, I believe that we need to wake up, grab a cup of coffee and start the day by saying this:
I AM NOT PERFECT. I WILL STOP ACTING LIKE IT, AND START RELENTLESSLY PURSUING CHRIST, THE ONLY PERFECT ONE!
How do you pursue perfection?
