High Priest must die to release murderer
A muderer flees to a city of refuge and must stay inside the city until the anointed high priest dies before he can return home safely. This murder must have been a mistake and so considered manslaughter. The avenger of blood cannot kill the murderer unless caught outside the city of refuge.
Jesus, the high priest dies for all of us murderers and the one who seeks our deaths cannot harm us as long as we stay in the care of the high priest. This is very strange, but again, a foreshadowing.
