What Is Love?

Yesterday, I was asked by a friend who is an avowed atheist how I could just forget my sinful past and live with this new found love for Jesus Christ who has offered to forgive me my sins? It is true that I lived in sin and sin so grievous that I fear its retribution and I often sit at the foot of the cross, including this morning, asking God if I am actually lying to Him and to the world of my new found love of Him just to cover my gory past and to be acceptable to this world and to God? How can I know there has been any real change in me and what is the assurance that I am saved and not living in state of consciousness where Jesus is my path to escape the horrors of this life? What is God saying to me and to those like me whose faith is being questioned at the very core?

To like Jesus Christ is not hard because we can respect Him as a good teacher, revere Him as a wise man or even honor Him as a prophet of God. To love Jesus Christ as our God is foolishness in the eyes of this world because we are admitting failure. To say that we are failures to be acceptable to this world is a contradiction and so my profession of faith cannot be for that reason. Today we are reminded that if we acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God and we put our complete faith in Him, then He lives in us and proof of that belief is our love for others regardless of whether they are christian or not. We then live in the confidence of the day of judgment when our sins will be forgiven because of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for us and we will instead be rewarded for our good works that glorified God after we accepted Christ. We need not fear God regarding His judgment against us but instead we need to praise God for His amazing love for us! Are you living with the burden of sin and have no hope? Then call on Jesus and He will take away your burden and give you reason to joyously glorify Him all the days of your life.
