A letter of patience

I admire Jeremiah's patience with the people. Imagine you preach year after year judgment and repentance. You warn people to turn around, otherwise they will end up in captivity.
But the people you talk to mock you, they don't listen and they even try to kill you!

Now all of Jeremiahs warnings and predictions come true, Judah is in captivity. How would you react? "Told ya! You deserve it!"
Jeremiah is so humble he even writes them a letter! And what a letter - a letter of hope with the famous verse 29 - "My plans are good... to give you a future and a hope"

Could you write someone such a letter after all this? Jeremiah cared so much for the people that he kept no record of wrongs.

Jeremiah was patient and asked his people to be patient - by living 70 years in Babylon and making the best out of the situation. That's true endurance.
Interestingly all the bad prophets were the opposite - impatient. They said they can return soon, so they don't have to undergo God's providence and discipline.

Let's have the same attitude:
- be patient with people (even though they hurt you)
- be patient with God's plans (even though it's a long and tough time)
