When All Hope is Gone

How easy it is to look at our circumstances and think that it's hopeless, and why not?  Paul and the entire ship's crew had been caught in a storm, driven off course, beaten and battered by the wind and waves and in clouded darkness, unable to see what might lie ahead.   After an extended time in these circumstances....all hope was gone.

When we lose jobs, have damaged relationships, have loved ones diagnosed with a terminal illness or worse, dying, we can feel like we're in the same kind of clouded darkness, beaten and battered, off course and lost.

Paul was able to offer hope, only because he had heard from God.  In the midst of chaos, he didn't turn from God, instead, he drew close and heard the promise of God that all would be OK.  While Paul heard directly from an angel, we can hear directly from God's Word.  His promises are true:

  • He will supply all our needs,
  • He will never leave us or forsake us,
  • He is with us always,
  • He can cause all things to work together for God,
  • Nothing can separate us from his love
Paul's word to his traveling companions is the same as God's word to us "take heart men and have faith in God that it will be exactly as He's said"
