Listen to the Word

We saw it in chapter 1 when Joseph obeyed the Lord and took Mary as his wife despite all the repercussions. Such a trust. When Herod sent soldiers to kill baby boys in Bethlehem God once again spoke to Joseph and told him to flee to Egypt. Joseph did so. In this passage we see once again God speaking to Joseph. He tells him it is time to return and so Joseph does. What I like about this passage is that Joseph listens to God. When he gets into Israel he finds reason to be afraid once again. Instead of fleeing back to Egypt, which I am sure he was inclined to do, he turned to God and obeyed.

I believe we will find ourselves in frightening territory when we listen to God's word. The world doesn't like it that we listen and therefore will come against the choice to follow. When we find ourselves in these situations the temptation will be to turn around, run away, or even denounce God, but we need to be strong like Joseph. When we find ourselves in seemingly bad situations because we followed the word of God we need to keep our focus on God. We turn back to his word and obey his command. God knows best. We can trust him.
